Masonry Painting Services
Rendered Walls and Pebble-Dashed Surfaces
Rendered and pebble-dashed facades require specialist assessment before repainting. We check for delamination, poor bonding, and incompatible paint layers.
Loose render is hacked back and made good. Incompatible paint systems are stripped or stabilised before new coating is applied. See our exterior painting page for comprehensive exterior service guidance.
Exposed Brick and Stone Facades
Exposed brick and stone can be painted or left natural depending on the property and preference. We advise on coatings appropriate to the surface.
Specialist primers ensure adhesion on non-uniform stone and brick surfaces. For period masonry properties, see our period property painting service page.
Breathable Coatings
Breathable masonry paints allow moisture to escape from the wall while providing weather protection. This prevents trapped moisture and failure on north and west-facing exposures.
We assess exposure and use breathable systems where they provide superior performance.

Treatment and Repair

Biological Growth Treatment
Algae and lichen growth on north-facing masonry is treated with mould treatment before any coating is applied. Treatment prevents regrowth beneath the new finish.
Clean masonry ensures the new coating adheres properly and lasts.
Repair Coordination
Masonry needing repair is identified at the site visit. We coordinate with appropriate tradespeople if specialist repair work is needed before painting can proceed.
Minor repairs are included in the quotation. Significant structural repair is quoted separately.
Here’s How It Works
1. Detailed Masonry Assessment
We visit, assess all masonry surfaces, and check for delamination and poor bonding. We identify biological growth and plan the repair and treatment approach.
2. Repair and Stabilisation
Loose render is hacked back and made good. Incompatible paint systems are stripped where needed. Cracked or hollow areas are addressed.
3. Cleaning and Biological Growth Treatment
Masonry is cleaned to remove moss and algae. Mould treatment is applied and allowed to work before rinsing.
4. Priming
Masonry primer is applied to all surfaces. This seals the surface and provides adhesion for the topcoat.
5. Paint Application and Inspection
Masonry paint is applied. The finish is inspected and touch-ups are completed before the project is finished.
Masonry Painting Costs in Surrey
Prices below are estimates only. Every masonry project is different. Call 01483 930151 for a precise quote.
How Much Does Masonry Painting Cost?
Masonry painting typically costs between £20 and £40 per square metre. This includes preparation, priming, and topcoat.
What Drives the Price?
- Wall area. Larger facades cost more in total but proportionally less per square metre.
- Surface condition. Render in poor condition needs repair before painting. Heavy biological growth adds treatment time.
- Paint system. Standard masonry paint is the most economical. Breathable systems cost more but perform better in high-moisture exposures.
Typical Price Ranges
- Rendered front elevation (1930s semi, Walton-on-Thames): £1,500 to £2,800 depending on condition.
- Large pebble-dashed detached (Cobham, full exterior with repair): £3,000 to £5,500.
- Comprehensive masonry project (large detached, render repair, biological treatment, breathable system): £4,500 to £7,500+ depending on condition and project size.
Trade Insight: Surrey’s Interwar Properties
Cobham’s interwar rendered and pebble-dashed properties have been over-painted multiple times with incompatible systems. Delaminating layers must be stabilised or removed before any new coating is applied.
