Exterior Painting Services

We cover every exterior surface across the Elmbridge borough.

Masonry and Rendered Walls

Rendered facades are common across Cobham and Esher’s interwar stock. Properties along Plough Lane, Oakdene Road, and Anyards Road are typical examples.

Before painting, we check for structural cracks, hollow areas, and poorly bonded sections. Loose render is hacked back and made good. Cracks are filled with flexible exterior filler. Only then is the surface primed and finished.

For a detailed breakdown of this process, see our masonry painting page.

Windows and Woodwork

Timber sash windows, fascias, soffits, and front doors. Prepared properly and finished to last.

Many sash windows in Weybridge and Thames Ditton are original Edwardian joinery with built-up paint layers. Your decorator strips back to sound timber, patches any rot, and primes correctly.

Durable exterior gloss or satin is then applied. For more on timber preparation and paint systems, see our wood painting page.

Fascias, Soffits, and Gutters

Fascias and soffits protect the roof line. When they begin to deteriorate, water gets in.

Timber fascias are repainted where sound and replacement is advised where they’re not. uPVC fascias and gutters can be repainted with specialist adhesion primers. Condition is inspected and an approach is recommended before work starts.

Front Door and Porch

The front door is the first thing visitors see. A well-prepared and freshly painted timber door transforms the street presence of a 1930s semi in Walton-on-Thames or a Victorian villa in Weybridge.

See our dedicated front door painting and door painting pages for preparation steps and paint options. Your decorator strips back, fills, primes, and applies a durable exterior finish. Colour consultation is included at the quotation stage.

Garden Walls and Outbuildings

Brick boundary walls, gate piers, and rendered outbuildings need the same care as the main house. Surface condition is assessed and the right coating is chosen before starting.

Many Esher and Oxshott properties have substantial brick and stone boundary walls that benefit from a fresh coat alongside the main exterior repaint. For timber outbuildings, see our shed painting page.

Fences and Decking

Fence painting and staining on Surrey’s exposed south-west-facing gardens protects timber from wet winters. Wet winters accelerate grain-lift and splitting.

Deck painting on raised timber decking requires a different preparation process, particularly where algae and moss have softened the surface. Your decorator assesses and advises before starting.

Window Frames

Window frame painting covers both timber sash and casement frames across the Elmbridge borough.

Preparation is the critical step. Frames are stripped to sound timber, minor rot treated, and primed correctly before finish coats.

Here’s How It Works

1. Site Assessment

Your decorator visits and checks every surface, noting surface type, existing coating condition, render integrity, and any biological growth, and identifies repair work needed before painting starts.

2. Surface Preparation

Moss, algae, and loose material are cleaned off. Render is repaired where needed. Timber is stripped to sound material. Biological growth is treated before rinsing.

3. Priming

Bare timber gets a specialist exterior timber primer. Masonry gets a masonry primer suited to the surface. The right primer is what separates a finish that lasts from one that fails early.

4. Paint Application

Exterior paint needs a dry window to cure properly. Surrey’s weather is monitored and application phases are planned around it. Two finish coats are standard. High-exposure west and north-facing surfaces get a third.

5. Inspection and Touch-Up

Once the final coat has cured, all surfaces are inspected in good light. Touch-ups are completed before leaving. Your decorator walks through the finished work with you before closing the job.

Exterior Painting Costs in Surrey

Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different.

What Drives the Price

Exterior painting typically costs between £20 and £45 per square metre, including preparation and two finish coats. Total project costs usually fall between £2,000 and £8,000+.

Three things drive the price: surface area, surface condition, and paint system. A large detached villa in Oxshott has considerably more wall area than a 1930s semi in Walton-on-Thames.

Typical Price Ranges

  • 1930s semi (Walton-on-Thames or Hersham, rendered or brick): £2,000 to £3,500 for walls only. Add £500 to £1,000 for fascias, soffits, and windows.
  • Edwardian semi (Thames Ditton or Claygate, render and substantial timber): £3,000 to £5,500 depending on timber condition and access requirements.
  • Detached villa (Oxshott or Weybridge, large plot): £5,000 to £8,500+ for a full exterior including woodwork.

Trade Insight

Cobham’s interwar stock along Plough Lane and Oakdene Road has pebble-dashed and painted render elevations that have been over-painted multiple times. Delaminating layers must be stripped and stabilised before any new coating is applied.
